Today is Mother's Day

I would like to give honor to my Mother today. She was born July 18, 1932 during the depression years in Cameron, Texas. She is the oldest of 6 children born to her parents and only she and two of her little brothers are still living now.

Bertie Lee married Thomas Newton in 1951. They had 8 children together and there always seemed to be a little one running around somewhere. I also remember a lot of astonished looks at our car when all the family was together driving to church! My Father died in 1992, so she has been alone for the last 15 years now.

She and my Father gave us a Christian heritage, a lot of love, and a picture of married life that I will always be thankful for. I remember many times my Father, coming in from work and giving her a hug and making her laugh. I suppose they argued some as most couples do, but mostly I remember the laughter, affection for one another and pulling together to get through some hard times.

Today she is 74 and though her body is not as young anymore, her spirit is still strong. She continues to rely on God to see her through everything. She is the one that continues to hold the rest of us together as we are all living and working in different places. Being the wife of a missionary, I have been out of the USA a lot and it gets harder to leave her every time. I just have to trust in God to take care of her. I am so grateful and proud to be her daughter.

And here is a picture of MY 3 sons and my wonderful daughter-in-law.
